Material utilisation or recycling

Public companies towards circular economy

  1. The public energy company Energetika Ljubljana collects the waste ash from coal combustion as raw material – it can be used as a construction composite, as a base in building roads and for closing mine shafts.

  2. In the process of anaerobic stabilisation of sludge in digestion plants over 2,200,000 Nm3 of biogas is produced. The produced biogas is then used in the process of drying excess sludge as a product of waste water purification and for heating the facilities of the Central Waste Water Treatment Plant Ljubljana.

  3. In the RCERO Ljubljana as much as 95 percent of seemingly useless mixed waste is used after processing as raw material for recycling or fuel. From the mixed waste the waste processing plant separates different types of plastic, paper and other useful materials, aluminium and other metals, while a magnet is used to remove iron. All separated materials then travel to recycling plants.
