15 years of Ljubljana Tourism

On 4 April 2016, the public institution Ljubljana Tourism celebrated its 15th anniversary. On the occasion the interactive installation WOW was set up in front of the Slovenian Tourist Information Centre at the Krek Square 10 which was used at EXPO 2015 in Milano as an invitation to visit the European Green Capital 2016.

At its anniversary the public institute Ljubljana Tourism remembered all of the implemented projects inviting national and foreign guests to Ljubljana. It is not uncommon for the visitors to be overcome with amazement by the friendliness, cleanliness, accessibility and the pleasant atmosphere of the city, and so they named it the »WOW« effect.
On this basis Ljubljana Tourism, in cooperation with the public company VO-KA and the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, came up with an idea for the installation which was conceptualised in the Nea Culpa Marketing Tourism Agency.
The 7 metre long and 2 metre tall installation attracts attention with its recognisable green and red colours of the city of Ljubljana. It represents the capital of Slovenia as the European Green Capital 2016 and the global »WOW« destination and, last but not least, the recipient of numerous awards for green and other achievements.
With WOW Ljubljana communicates the benefit the citizens and the travellers visiting the city can enjoy: only a step away from the vibrating urban centre there is the unspoilt nature. Namely, Ljubljana prides itself in having 542 m2 of green areas per citizen and high-quality water sources. Due to responsible environmental management the water sources supply it with natural drinking water which has not undergone mechanical treatment, and this is also emphasized with numerous public fountains in the centre and its vicinity.
The installation appeals to the visitors as everyone can use it as an attractive photo background with the viral »WOW« effect. Ljubljana is joining capitals, for instance Amsterdam or New York, which erected letter installations at landmark locations. These immediately inspire the visitors to take innovative photos that then virally spread on the internet and through social media. And Ljubljana’s installation is quite special as it is interactive.

The WOW installation was designed for a more striking presentation of the Ljubljana and Central Slovenia region within the Slovenian pavilion at EXPO 2015 in Milano. The delegation of the European Union pavilion at EXPO 2015 was so fascinated by the green Ljubljana and the idea of an installation with a green character that it moved the WOW installation exclusively in front of the European Union pavilion near to the Tree of Life, the official EXPO 2015 installation.
Now the installation is set up at Krek Square 10 offering WOW experiences in a green city where the whole of Europe comes together.
