65th anniversary of liberation

A celebration to mark to 65th anniversary of the end of the II. World War and the liberation of Ljubljana was held on Saturday 8 May 2010.

A ceremonial speech was given by guest of honour Dr Danilo Türk, President of the Republic of Slovenia. A welcoming speech was given by Mayor of the City of Ljubljana Zoran Janković, and the Partisan address by Janez Stanovnik, President of the Union of Associations of War Veterans and Participants in the National Liberation Struggle (ZZB NOB) and honorary citizen of the City of Ljubljana.

The commemoration was attended by the Partisan Choir and the Trieste Partisan Choir Pinko Tomažič accompanied by the Slovenian Army Orchestra, tenor Anže Petrač and theatre actors Iva Zupančič and Aleksander Valič. Prior to the ceremony the Zasavje Musical Orchestra played. The festival area was filled by rank and file soldiers from every ZZB NOB organisation, veterans associations and the honour guard of the Slovenian Army.

The main organiser of the festivities was the Union of Associations of War Veterans and Participants in the Slovenian National Liberation Struggle, and the celebrations were organized in partnership and with the help of the City of Ljubljana and the Slovenian Ministry of Defence.
