8th maslenica international festival
The 8th Maslenica international charity festival of Russian culture was held at the Pogačarjev Trg square on Saturday, 1 March 2014.
The organisers of the Maslenica festival prepared a varied cultural programme, a fair, local cuisine demonstrations and creative workshops. They have created a true festive atmosphere for the holiday celebrated in Russia around Shrovetide.
Approximately 300 performers took part in the festival (around 200 children and 100 adults) from Slovenia, Italy, Croatia and Russia.
The festival first took place here in Slovenia in 2007 when the organisers wanted to bring the Russian culture closer to the Slovenian society. The festival also aims to unite different cultural associations who share a love for Russian or Slavic culture and above all to preserve the special cultural identity of bilingual children whose native tongues are both Slovenian and Russian.
The festival was organised around the following themes:
- The main cultural programme uniting Slovenian, Russian and foreign cultural associations or organisations. Children's folklore groups were also part of the main programme.
- The creative workshop for children and adults where visitors could make their own typically Russian souvenirs.
- Prize competitions and entertainment programme for children and adults.
- Catering and tasting of typical Russian dishes and drinks (pirozhki, pelmeni etc.).
- Russian souvenirs and craft market.
- Thematic exhibitions at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (Ciril Metodov Trg 1).
The festival was organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, the Slovenia-Russia Association and the Vesela dRuščina Institute, and sponsored by the City of Ljubljana.
