A new school year has begun

The City of Ljubljana continues with investments to ensure high-quality conditions in schools and kindergartens. The education program is carried out at over 180 locations, where we are constructing new buildings, carrying out comprehensive renovations, energy renovations and designing children's and sports playgrounds.

In the school year 2022/2023, there will be 13,069 children in public kindergartens in Ljubljana. The enrolment of kindergarten children in Ljubljana is 95.9%, while in the Republic of Slovenia it is 83.7%, according to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.

The number of elementary school students in Ljubljana is decreasing in the school year 2022/2023, namely, there will be 11 fewer students in public and private primary schools in the City of Ljubljana than in the previous school year. And so, 26,554 primary school students will be educated in 1,179 departments in the area of Ljubljana.

Higher spatial capacities in primary schools are ensured by increasing the number of rooms, which is achieved by rearranging and separating rooms into several smaller units, major internal rearrangements and conversions, and extensions and additions. From 2008 (944 departments) to this year (1,126 departments), school capacities increased by as many as 182 departments.

In the 2022/2023 school year, the City of Ljubljana is also offering 90 scholarships for talented pupils and students. So far, we have already supported 1,728 gifted pupils and students, for which we allocated almost 9.5 million EUR.
