According to National Geographic Ljubljana is among the leading cities adopting the zero waste strategy

National Geographic listed Ljubljana among 25 cities around the world committed to the zero waste society.

In the opinion of National Geographic, individuals and communities joining the zero waste society prove that in the field of waste less is truly more – more health, safety and sustainability – for the people and our planet.

Boldly towards less waste and higher quality of life

They wrote that Ljubljana was the first capital in Europe which already in 2014 set a goal for itself to become a zero waste city. With clear goals, activities and efficient communication about the importance of reducing waste and reusing it there is no longer a need for an incineration plant in Ljubljana, in 2016 it was also declared the European Green Capital.
