Application book for the title European Capital of Culture 2025 submitted
Today the Ministry of Culture received our application book for the candidacy of the City of Ljubljana with the support of 25 municipalities of the Ljubljana Urban Region for the title European Capital of Culture 2025 (ECC 2025).
The Ljubljana 2025 project working group prepared the application book which we submitted to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia today. A twelve-member international committee will read and evaluate it, and in the first months of the coming year choose Slovenian cities for the second round of the European Capital of Culture 2025 candidacy.
Connecting
Ljubljana 2025 is a trans-Slovenian and trans-European project. We see the title European Capital of Culture as a responsibility and an opportunity to become a European metropolis which uses culture as the main driver for the development of European cities – cities of the future which meet the needs of the residents of our cities, and at the same time all Slovenian and European citizens. Ljubljana 2025 can do it as we are building a wide networking and cooperation project:
Ljubljana with the support of 25 municipalities of the Ljubljana Urban Region: Borovnica, Brezovica, Dobrepolje, Dobrova – Polhov Gradec, Dol pri Ljubljani, Domžale, Grosuplje, Horjul, Ig, Ivančna Gorica, Kamnik, Komenda, Litija, Ljubljana, Log – Dragomer, Logatec, Lukovica, Medvode, Mengeš, Moravče, Škofljica, Šmartno pri Litiji, Trzin, Velike Lašče, Vodice and Vrhnika, whose representatives are in the Honorary Committee and in the Regional Council of Ljubljana 2025.
Over 150 experts in culture, education, environment, creative industries, tourism, economy and other areas.
Over 300 organisations, institutes and individuals participating in the open invitation for programme ideas. These are participants in thematic consultations and events organised for designing the European Capital of Culture 2025 programme during the preparation of the candidacy.
Main theme of LJ 2025: solidarity
Solidarity is the common denominator of the whole LJ 2025 programme, it is a topic focusing on future and concerning all Europeans.
