Awarded education excellence in Ljubljana

The Head of the Education Centre PIKA, Branka D. Jurišić, PhD, and teacher at the Kette and Murn Primary School, Jožica Frigelj, MA, received the highest recognitions of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of education.

Award for outstanding achievements

Branka D. Jurišić, PhD, Head of the Education Centre PIKA and recipient of the award for outstanding achievements in the area of children with special needs, is recognisably changing the area of schooling and educating special needs children with her excellent, creative and comprehensive work. She is passing on her rich experiences and highly professional and research activities to professional workers, educators, teachers and parents. To achieve higher quality of treatment of children with special needs in Ljubljana she has, in cooperation with Marija Fabčič, Head of the Pre-School Education and Schooling Department at the City Administration of the City of Ljubljana, and Matej Rovšek, PhD, Headteacher of the Special Education Centre Janez Levec Ljubljana, developed the education centre model.

The Janez Levec and the City of Ljubljana Education Centre (the Education Centre PIKA) has been in operation since 2013 within the framework of the Special Education Centre Janez Levec Ljubljana with the purpose of supporting schooling and education of children with special needs in kindergartens and schools of the City of Ljubljana and wider. Its operation concept is unique in Europe, namely, it is based on 5 programmes: professional training of special and social pedagogues; individual counselling; phone and e-counselling for educators, teachers and families; lectures and seminars for educators, teachers and families; and school for parents/teachers.

Award for lifelong work

Jožica Frigelj, MA, is the recipient of the Award of the Republic of Slovenia in 2020 for lifelong work in the field of primary school education. The teacher at the Kette and Murn Primary School has been dedicated to pedagogical work for 38 years. Her work is based on knowledge and experience, on combining theory and practice, bringing together all actors in the educational process, and primarily support of fundamental moral values.
