Earth Hour

On Saturday, 25 March 2017, the City of Ljubljana with its public institutes and companies turned off the exterior lighting on some of its buildings and by doing so joined the international environmental initiative Earth Hour.

Between 20.30 and 21.30 the lights on the following buildings were switched off:

  • the lights on the outer side of the walls and in the inner courtyard of the Ljubljana Castle,
  • the lights on the Križanke walls,
  • the lights on the office building of the Ljubljana Public Holding on Verovškova ulica 70,
  • the lights on the administration building of the public energy company Energetika Ljubljana on Verovškova 62, the exterior lighting on the parking lot and the lights on the office building on Toplarniška ulica 19,
  • the lights above the entrance into the office building of the public passenger transport company LPP on Celovška cesta 160,
  • Plečnik’s Arcades at the main Ljubljana market,
  • Plečnik’s proplya at the Žale cemetery,
  • the exterior lighting of the buildings of the waste management company Snaga on Povšetova 4, 6 and 8, the Snaga complex on Cesta dveh cesarjev 111, at the landfill (Barje Collection centre) and the following facilities: the treatment plant, the garage with the mechanical workshop and the parking lot where the waste collection vehicles were parked,
  • the lighting in the display window of the Ljubljana Tourist Information – TIC on Adamič-Lundrovo nabrežje 2 and the Slovenian Tourist Information Centre – STIC in Krekov trg 10; and the lighting of the WOW installation in Krekov trg 10 was turned off the whole day,
  • the exterior lights on the business and service building on Vodovodna cesta 90 (administration building of the public water management company VO-KA).

Earth Hour is a global initiative against environmental change introduced in 2007 by WWF Australia with Ljubljana as a participant for the sixth year running.
