EMW 2021: Safe and Healthy with Sustainable Mobility

For twenty years, the City of Ljubljana has been participating in the European Mobility Week (EMW), the biggest international campaign for the promotion of sustainable mobility, held every year between 16 and 22 September.

Again this year, we will pay additional attention to raising awareness of the benefits of walking, cycling, using public transport and other sustainable modes of travel through various one-day events, weekly activities and permanent measures.

Within the framework of this year's European Mobility Week, we are planning six permanent measures, 21 weekly activities and 73 one-day events and activities. All events are attendance-free and will be held in line with the National Institute of Public Health recommendations that apply during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Permanent measures

Constructing pedestrian and bicycle paths
We are constructing new pedestrian and bicycle paths on the streets Bežigrad and Cesta dveh cesarjev. In addition, we completed the construction on the street Letališka cesta, where we have already erected a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across the ring road.

Installing new bicycle stands
We will set up new bicycle stands at seven locations near first-category children's playgrounds. With will encourage visitors to the playgrounds to go there by bicycle.

Planting bus stop roofs
In cooperation with the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana, Europlakat and the company BTC, we will plant bus stop roofs at Križanke, Mirje, Gornji trg, both Drama stops and three stops in the BTC City Ljubljana area with honey plants that attract bees.

Klinko Kavalir
Within the framework of the TRIBUTE project, we introduced a free transport service with a Kavalir electric vehicle throughout the area of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana and the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, which is intended for the elderly and mobility and sensory impaired people.

Painting 3D crosswalks
On the initiative of the Safe Route Institute, which in a joint project with the Generali insurance company promotes traffic safety, we painted a 3D crosswalk on the street Derčeva ulica instead of the usual pedestrian crossing. This will contribute to calmer traffic and greater visibility of the most vulnerable road users.

Purchasing two automatic speed measuring devices and their housings
We will install two automatic speed measuring devices for personal vehicles and two housings on the streets Kajuhova cesta and Pot rdečega križa, in order to reduce the speed of traffic and thus contribute to greater traffic safety.
