European Mobility Week already 21 years in Ljubljana

For the 21st consecutive year, the City of Ljubljana is participating in the European Mobility Week, the biggest international campaign for the promotion of sustainable mobility, held every year between 16 and 22 September.

Again this year, we are paying additional attention to raising awareness of the benefits of walking, cycling, using public transport and other sustainable modes of travel through various one-day events, weekly activities and permanent measures.

Better connections

This year's slogan 'Better connections' urges us to connect again after restricting contact, to meet and socialize in safe streets, squares and other public spaces in the city. Good accessibility to goods and services ensured mobility for all social groups and a variety of alternatives to personal motorized transport contribute to a higher quality of life.

The EMW 2022 program contains nine permanent measures, 20 weekly activities and over 60 one-day events. All events are admission-free for visitors.

Permanent measures of the European Mobility Week 2022 in Ljubljana

Bike park in Podutik
We will construct a new bicycle park in Podutik at the street Dolniška ulica. It will be aimed at training skills with different types of vehicles (bikes, scooters, skateboards, inline skates, roller skates, balance bikes), and visitors will be able to actively spend their free time around the reservoir lake in Podutik. The completion of the project is expected by the end of October 2022.

Bike park in Štepanjsko naselje
We will start with the construction of a new bicycle park in the neighborhood Štepanjsko naselje. It will be aimed at training skills with different types of vehicles (bikes, scooters, skateboards, inline skates, roller skates, balance bikes), which will provide the residents and visitors to this area with additional options for sports activities. The bike park construction is planned to conclude by the end of 2022.

Bike park on Cesta v Gorice
Together with the City of Ljubljana Public Housing Fund, we used the land next to the residential neighborhood Cesta v Gorice to construct a public park for active spending of free time as we have received numerous initiatives from the residents and locals. Next to the asphalt path, on which social games for the youngest users of the park are drawn, visitors can also use a bike park, outdoor exercise equipment, an asphalt court for ball games and table tennis. The bike park is planned to open on Wednesday, 21 September 2022.

Installation of bicycle stands
We will set up 120 bicycle stands in front of primary schools and kindergartens.

Set-up of a secured bicycle storage
We have set up the first underground public bicycle storage in the Congress Square parking house, which has room for 78 regular and 14 electric bikes. Bicycle parking is free-of-charge, and access is enabled with the Urbana card.

Setting up an e-bike rental system
We introduced the Nomago Bikes electric bike rental system on a trial basis. There are 17 stations with 127 bicycle docks in various locations around the city. The test period will last until the end of 2022.

Planting Ljubljana LPP bus stop roofs
In September, we will re-plant the roofs of four bus stops next to the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre and one at the bus stop next to Astra.

A new electromobility strategy
A study for the implementation and a business plan for the introduction of e-vehicles and the introduction of urban infrastructure for e-vehicles in the City of Ljubljana is being prepared. The study will include a description of the use of existing e-infrastructure and innovative transport services, as well as a plan to increase urban charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and green transport services in line with urban national implementation plans and EU strategic concepts and goals for mobility and the environment.
