Film watching made even more comfortable in Kinodvor

The Kinodvor cinema, operating under the umbrella of the City of Ljubljana, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Ever since it has been successful in its mission as the central city cinema devoted to screening quality film production from around the world and development of film education and culture with its programmes for all age groups.

Kinodvor entering its anniversary season with new seats

Kinodvor believes that in many ways it is sustaining and upgrading its main vision as the central art film station which started operating under the new name in 2003 under the leadership of then director of the Slovenian Cinematheque Silvan Furlan and his colleagues. As back then they didn’t have sufficient funds at disposal for a comprehensive renovation of the cinema they launched the campaign On your own chair calling upon film aficionados to buy »their own« cinema chairs. As a token of appreciation they put up small plates with the names or inscriptions of the new chair »owners«.

Since then 15 years have passed and it was time for yet another restoration of the worn out chairs. So the cinema closed its doors in July for a month to carry out the renovation works. And so we are entering the anniversary season with new more comfortable seats but because of adding extra space between the rows on the ground floor of the renovated cinema hall there are a few less seats. As a sign of respect and to preserve the memory we reattached the plates of the film aficionados who made the previous renovation possible.

City miniplex

Kinodvor is entering the new decade with another big challenge ahead, namely, we are jointly developing a city miniplex set up in the underpass Ajdovščina. The plans for the miniplex ensure appropriate spatial conditions for the city cinema concept of a creative culture centre for all generations with an emphasis on attracting new, especially young audience, to truly come to life.
