First published public tender for festival co-financing

The City of Ljubljana published the first public tender for the selection of two-year cultural projects in the field of festivals to be co-financed in 2018 and 2019.

The subject of the new tender is co-financing of festivals to be carried out in the period from 2018 to 2019. It pertains to co-financing of those festivals which link cultural creation with social criticism and social engagement as aspects of city life and at the same time adopt an interdisciplinary approach to different artistic areas and forms.

The project (festival) is in its design and contents a linked cycle of events spanning over at least three days and including no less than 10 artistic, cultural and culture-related events (theatre or dance performances, concerts, exhibitions, literary events, performances, intellectual conversations and other events).

The tender is open to non-governmental cultural organisations which meet the participation criteria; and the project they are applying with is currently not co-financed by the City of Ljubljana.

Co-financing projects in culture

In Ljubljana we support numerous public cultural projects for which we allocate 2,120,000 euro a year, and if we add the funds for the project tender and programme management the total value is over 3.5 million euro. The area of culture is also an integral part of the city document strategically defining the sustainable development of Ljubljana up to 2025, the budgetary resources allocated to the Department for Culture each year amount on average to 27 million euro which is over 10% of the city budget.
