Helping Serbian citizens on their way home

On Monday 23 March, we responded to the request from Serbian citizens stranded in Ljubljana traveling to Serbia from various European countries and provided them with food and tea.

In cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Slovenia we accommodated them in the Sports Hall Ježice. The competent services of the City of Ljubljana, in cooperation with the scouts and under the leadership of Robert Kus, MSc, Head of the Emergency Management Department, have prepared folding beds for them to sleep on.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has also provided healthcare to Serbian citizens.

Some restaurants have also responded by providing meals.

Serbian citizens were met by the Paroch of the Orthodox Church Peran Bošković and the Ambassadress of the Republic of Serbia to Slovenia Zorana Vlatković, who informed them about the isolation procedure in Serbia.

Special thanks goes to Mr Erik Demirović, authorised representative of Minister Aleš Hojs, who tended to the Serbian citizen stranded in Ljubljana all these days and brought them together.

On Wednesday, 25 March, the first group of Serbian citizens (200 people) is going to be escorted by the police to the Croatian border where the Croatian police is going to take them over and escort them to Serbian border. Those remaining in Ljubljana are going back home the following day at 3 in the morning. While staying with us they are going to be provided with lunch and dinner.

Thanks to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Janez Janša and Minister of the Interior Aleš Hojs for organising the convoy through Slovenia and facilitating the agreement with Croatian and Serbian colleagues who are going to escort the convoy to the Serbian border.

Special thanks to the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Slovenia Tomaž Kavčič who facilitated a conversation with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.

We would also like to thank our Municipal Police Department headed by Roman Fortuna, police officers, doctors, employees of the public institute of Ljubljana Sport and Red Cross representatives who cared for the Serbian citizens.

During these times it is also important to express respect, solidarity, concern and compassion for those who need help.

We wish them a successful return to their country!
