International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On 11 February, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, declared by the United Nations General Assembly.

Various statistics show that both horizontal (concentration of women and men in certain sciences) and vertical (concentration of women and men in certain functions and positions) segregation occurs in science.

We probably cannot completely eradicate prejudices and stereotypes, that is why it is important that we pay attention to them, so we do not introduce stereotypical assumptions into our work and, of course, that we also make others aware of this. As part of the action plan for Gender Equality in the City of Ljubljana, we are preparing various awareness-raising activities that strive to overcome gender stereotypes.

On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we congratulate all female scientists on their successes and thank them for being role models for young girls so they can more easily decide on scientific and research work.
