International Days for the Elimination of Violence against Women

25 November is the World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day marks the start of the 16 days of the global campaign for the human rights of women, which ends on 10 December, International Human Rights Day. Again this year, different activities will be carried out during these days aimed at raising awareness about the unacceptability of violence.

Violence against women is still a burning issue, which is why the City of Ljubljana has been supporting the efforts of non-governmental organisations for many years, which significantly help raise awareness as well as recognise and reduce violence against women. Through public tenders, we co-finance various programs aimed at both women and children, victims of violence (such as safe accommodation and counselling centres), as well as perpetrators of violence (workshops), and we are actively involved in various awareness-raising activities.

This year's central theme: stalking

This year, in cooperation with non-governmental organisations, we are paying particular attention to raising awareness about stalking and the procedures for dealing with stalking.

What is stalking?

Stalking refers to unwanted, repeated intrusions, that is, interferences of one person in another person's life. By stalking, the perpetrator approaches the victim, crosses their boundaries, and constantly reminds them of their presence and their will over them, thus limiting and controlling them. We prepared a TikTok campaign, within the framework of which we recorded a series of short awareness-raising films on the topic.

You can read more about stalking on the website of the Society for Nonviolent Communication, with which we collaborated in preparing the campaign, and we will post the awareness-raising films on the TikTok page of the City of Ljubljana.
