June in Ljubljana festival

Between 8 and 21 June 2017, the 9th June in Ljubljana festival is taking place featuring superior artistic creations in the field of dance, theatre and music. Programmes in the morning and afternoon are traditionally dedicated to children and families, and in the evenings to top artistic events. All events are admission-free.

During the fourteen days the festival is offering over 30 cultural experiences. There are five thematic days, namely, a cool day for the youth (9 June), contemporary dance day (10 June), ballet day (13 June), circus theatre day (19 June) and a music holiday (21 June).

Since the end of 2015 Ljubljana is the proud holder of the title UNESCO City of Literature and within its framework the Ljubljana in June festival is honouring the legendary story Muca copatarica (Cat the Slipper Cobbler), which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In addition to puppet theatre performances, illustrator Ančka Gošnik Godec is going to be available for book signings and children can take part in different creative workshops and dance with the Cat which teaches children how to be orderly.

The festival begins on Thursday, 8 June, with the Slovenian military Big Band Orchestra with Vlatko Stefanovski and Grega Skočir as guests, and it concludes on the first day of summer, 21 June, when we are again joining the Music Holiday international initiative inviting numerous musicians of different music genres and generations onto the streets of Ljubljana.
