Ljubljana is hosting the FemCities conference

On 2. and 3. March 2023, the FemCities international conference titled Sexism: the challenge in achieving gender equality, organized in cooperation with the City of Vienna, is being held at the City Hall.

At the conference, we are shedding light on the issues of sexism and (co)operation of women in politics, hate speech, stereotypical representation of women in the media and sexism in general.

Within the framework of the conference, we also invite you to visit two exhibitions that address the topic of sexism. The Kresija Gallery hosts the exhibition Neither Chick Nor Cock (Ne tič, ne ptička), in which six invited authoresses and authors display works on the topics of stereotypical portrayal of genders, breakdown of typical attributes and characteristics ascribed to men or women, understanding of gender fluidity, breaking the framework of established social roles and the consequences of sexism.

In the Right Atrium of the City Hall, you can see the exhibition What She Was Wearing, prepared by 3rd-year students of the art program at the Secondary School of Design and Photography Ljubljana.

FemCities is a network of European cities founded in 1997 at the initiative of the City of Vienna, with the City of Ljubljana joining in 2015. The network aims to exchange models of good practices and strategies for enforcing laws and administrative structures in the field of gender equality.
