Ljubljana remains a reading friendly municipality

Ljubljana, UNESCO City of Literature, is going to hold the title Reading Friendly Municipality, which it received in 2017, for another three years.

We are going to continue with the successful promotion of reading, reading literacy and reading culture with numerous projects.

Co-financing diverse programmes and projects

We are supporting and co-financing projects and programmes for the promotion of reading and reading literacy, especially in the area of culture and education. And so, in the past five years (2016–2020) we have supported 43 cultural projects for the promotion of reading through public tenders and provided co-financing in the amount of 100,575.00 EUR. All these years we have also been promoting the Fabula Literary Festival, which is hosting established authors from around the world, and when they visit translations of their works are published at accessible prices. We have co-financed the festival in the period from 2016 to 2020 in the amount of 208,600.00 EUR.

In 2020, within the framework of the Public Tender for Co-financing Public Cultural Programmes, which we are going to co-finance in the period 2020–2023, we are also going to support two programmes for the promotion of reading culture for the first time – the Wild Thought Institute and Slovene Writers’ Association. By doing so we are pursuing the goals set out in strategic documents, namely, sustainable provision and wide accessibility of quality content in the area of books and reading.
