On Wednesday, 23 March 2022, Mayor Zoran Janković unveiled a monument to linguist Jernej Kopitar in Belgrade.

When we erected a monument to Vuk Stefanović Karadžić in Ljubljana in 2016, donated by the city of Belgrade and the Vukova zadužbina Foundation, we committed ourselves to erect a monument to Jernej Kopitar in Belgrade in memory of the friendship and cooperation of the two linguists, which in the early 19th century contributed to the development of the Slovene and Serbian languages.

On the occasion, Mayor Zoran Janković highlighted that he was proud of the friendship between the two nations and that Ljubljana and Belgrade are twin cities. He added that cooperation between the two countries shows the path that all countries in Europe should follow, without war.
