On Friday, we turned on the holiday lights

Festive December in Ljubljana began on Friday, 25 November 2022, when the festive lights were switched on. In addition to the holiday fair, which opened on the same day in the morning, there will be a straw nativity scene for the tenth year in a row, as well as the St. Nicholas Fair and Procession, the Magic Forest, the Christmas Concert, street theatre performances and, of course, the Father Frost Parades.

Ljubljana is decorated with ten festive spruce trees and 79 green trees, which the citizens will also decorate, and this year's novelties are the Ice Queen and the festive village on the French Revolution Square, in which top chefs will offer culinary delights.

New Year's decorations have meaning again this year

The New Year's decoration is titled "Common mind/community spirit". As the author of the decorating concept Urban Modic explains, through it, in addition to art as an idea-spiritual component, mental chaos will be presented. Ljubljana will be shown as an organism that parallels thinking beings. The urban fabric is divided into features that present the organism in a mechanical sense and those that represent a metaphysical, that is, intellectual aspect. Separately but in context, established, newly conceived and supplemented stories of the origin of life, the universe and others are also presented. New Year's decorations are dedicated to everyone living with multiple sclerosis.

The holiday fair will be open until January 8, 2023.

In addition to a chain of lights 50 kilometres long, Ljubljana will be decorated with ten spruce trees and 79 “Green Trees” on Wolfova, Čopova, Stritarjeva and Trubarjeva streets; these are Christmas trees that will be returned to nature after the holidays. Help in decorating the little “Green Trees” forest on Wolfova Street will come from pupils of Ljubljana primary schools, and Turizem Ljubljana invites the people of the city to decorate the little forests on Stritarjeva and Čopova streets and to become part of the story of the festive Ljubljana. We ask you not to buy new ornaments, but to bring ones you already have at home.

Numerous seasonal activities and an attractive range of concerts will draw visitors to the exquisitely decorated old town centre throughout December. The schedules will be available here.
