The Clean for You project

The City of Ljubljana is implementing the largest cohesion project in the county for wastewater drainage and treatment in the area of the City of Ljubljana (and in the municipalities Medvode and Vodice). Over 22,000 citizens are going to be connected to the new sewage system.

With the full implementation of the large cohesion project some of the smaller treatment plants are going to be shut down as they are overloaded (insufficient capacity) and no longer meet legislative requirements. Their incorporation into the central sewage system is going to ensure better supervision and more efficient wastewater treatment. Over 4,000 existing septic tanks are going to be closed as they are a major source of underground water pollution.

The Wastewater Drainage and Treatment of the Ljubljansko polje Aquifer Area project includes the upgrade of the central sewage system in the agglomerations of the City of Ljubljana with over 2000 p.e. which are not equipped in line with the applicable regulations.

The construction works are going to be carried out in several phases in line with the FIDIC red book, namely, on 261 streets in Ljubljana (where all other infrastructure is going to be set up in parallel), and fully completed in 2021.

About the Clean for You project

The project is valued at 111 million euro, the European Commission is contributing 69.1 million euro, 12.4 million euro is going to be co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, and municipalities are going to secure the rest of the funds. This project is going to increase the sewage system coverage to as much as 98 percent.
