This year already over half a million visitors at the Ljubljana Castle

The Ljubljana Castle, the main tourist site in Ljubljana, was visited by 560,795 people in the first half of the year, and the number of passengers using the funicular railway saw a significant increase, as well. The number of tourists in Ljubljana has also reached a new record.

In the first six months of the year over half a million people, 560,795 to be exact, visited the Ljubljana Castle, which is 73,074 more than over the same period last year. The number of passengers transported by the funicular railway is also increasing. In the first six months of this year a 32.5 percent increase of passengers in comparison to the year before was recorded: until the end of June 191,853 passengers were transported.

According to the statistics of tourist tickets sold there were 36 % domestic and 64 % foreign visitors recorded in the first half of the year. Foreign visitors predominantly come from Italy, followed by Great Britain, Germany, the United States of America, Croatia and Korea.

The season of events at the Castle Courtyard has also started, complementing the lively tourist heartbeat of the capital. Until 29 July the Film Under the Stars is under way, in cooperation with Imago Slovenia the concert Oxana & La Banda is planned for 3 August, and during three consecutive mid-week evenings in August (on 2, 9 and 16 August) visitors, especially foreign, can get to know our folklore heritage with the Emona Folklore Group; between 22 and 26 August the Panč stand-up comedy festival is taking place and right after that the Comedy under the Stars is on the calendar (from 27 to 30 August).

While strolling around the Ljubljana Castle this summer the visitors can also see, in addition to five permanent exhibitions: the photographic exhibition National Geographic Slovenia – Vanishing Cultures, authored by Arne Hodalič and Katja Bidovec; the exhibition of Plečnik’s Realised and Unrealised Plans on the Castle Hill »Plečnik Above the City«; the exhibition of three generations of the artistic family Demšar from Ljubljana »Clay, Wood and Glas«; and the painting exhibition by Milena Usenik and Emerik Bernard »Cohabitations«. On Saturdays visitors can also listen to the Castle Pipers.

Rise in the number of tourists in Ljubljana

According to the assessment of the Ljubljana Tourism there were 137,369 overnight stays in June in all accommodation facilities, which is almost 12 percent more than during the same period last year. In the first half of this year there were as many as 577,216 overnight stays of tourists, which is 13.6 percent more than in the first six months last year.
