Water is a human right

Mayor Zoran Janković is among the ambassadors of a European citizens' initiative entitled 'Right2Water', which aims to declare water as a human right.

The Right2Water initiative already has the support of more than 50 ambassadors, including Mayor Zoran Janković, who wrote on this occasion that "Ljubljana is a city that boasts of having clean drinking water, and this is something we can be proud of. We have even set up drinking fountains on the city streets and thereby enabled our residents and visitors to have a drink free of charge in the warmer months. As we are aware that good-quality drinking water is a public good and a human right we cannot allow it to be privatised. Therefore we in Ljubljana will ensure that water remains accessible to all".
The goal of the European citizens' initiative 'Right2Water' is to declare water as a human right, meaning that water and sanitation must be available, accessible and price-affordable to all of the people of Europe.
The European citizens' initiative is a tool via which a million EU citizens can call on the European Commission to make a legislative proposal.
