We will cut the grass when the bees are fed

On 20 May, when we mark the World Bee Day, we presented an awareness-raising campaign on the significance of late grass cutting for bees which we titled We will cut the grass when the bees are fed.

In Ljubljana we take care of our environment and live in harmony with nature. We are aware that an orderly, clean and green environment has a significant impact on the quality of life for everyone.

With late grass cutting on select green public surfaces in the city, we are highlighting the significance of preserving the structure of meadow plants for grazing of pollinators from honey bees to numerous wild pollinators. We are putting special emphasis on bees and their significance for nature and humans.
The signs We will cut the grass when the bees are fed are going to be out up fist in the Tivoli Park, the Slovenian Reformation Park (the Argentinian Park), on the Ljubljana Castle hillside and in orchards within city gardening areas.
With time, we will expand this practice to other larger green surfaces in the city, and we will also prepare a plan for prolonging the blooming period of meadow plant structures on green surfaces in the city. With such activities we are pursuing sustainable development of our city, and preserving and increasing biodiversity, while reducing our carbon footprint.

We invite citizens to join us in our care for bees and other pollinators and mow their lawns later when flowers stop blooming.
