The main area of my first mandate as Deputy Mayor will be to take care of the high-quality and modern development of Ljubljana in the field of sports. Nowadays, sport is an indispensable part of the urban way of life and represents an important social activity that is closely connected with health care, tourism and the economy. Public interest in the field of sports is, therefore, quite broad and extends beyond the boundaries of sports activities, which requires attentive, professional, sustainable and coherent strategic development both in the field of competitive sports, sports recreation, development of athletes and sports workers, as well as in the area of structure, operation and financing of sports organizations. We will establish the conditions for the aforementioned development of sports activities by renovating the existing and building new modern sports infrastructure, such as the Ilirija indoor Olympic pool, the Vevče swimming pool complex and the Athletic Centre Ljubljana. As Deputy Mayor and councillor of the Freedom Movement party, in cooperation with Mayor Zoran Janković and a team of colleagues of the City of Ljubljana, I will strive to ensure that Ljubljana will continue to proudly welcome and celebrate the successes of top athletes and sports teams, and provide a lively space for various mass sports events and competitions at the highest level and that it will provide excellent conditions for active and organized exercise for as many residents of all generations as possible. With development projects, programs and measures, working together with all stakeholders in sports, we will achieve the goal of making Ljubljana a recognizable capital of sports and well-being on an international scale.
