Mayor on a Visit to Vienna

Mayor Zoran Janković and his delegation visited Vienna on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, where he was received by the Mayor and Governor of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig, and his colleagues. He also met with former Mayor and Governor of Vienna, Dr. Michael Häupl.

Mayor Zoran Janković thanked them for the warm welcome and expressed his satisfaction with the excellent cooperation between the two cities, which has lasted for many years. As he pointed out, the remarkable friendship between Vienna and Ljubljana was strengthened during the term of former Mayor and Governor Dr. Michael Häupl and now continues with Dr. Michael Ludwig, which brings him great joy.

He emphasised that Vienna is a city that combines tradition and the future and expressed his wish for Vienna to take a leading role among the group of European capitals and to convene mayors of European capitals on an annual basis to discuss key shared issues – at this moment, the extremely important matter of ensuring peace in Europe, as well as environmentally friendly solutions across all sectors.

He thanked Dr. Ludwig for the visit to the Pfaffenau waste incineration plant, the presentation of its operations and its integration into the urban space. This valuable experience will be of great help in seeking sustainable solutions in Ljubljana. Mayor and Governor of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig, stated that Ljubljana is a very important city for Vienna, and he especially emphasised that Mayor Zoran Janković demonstrates how important continuity in mayoral leadership is for the successful management of a city.
