New Recognition for LUV Fest

Ljubljana’s LUV Fest, the festival of Love, Art and Wandering, has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards and won third place in the category Cultural Tourism Services for All, Visitors and Residents Alike.

Held from 8 February to 12 March, LUV Fest brings a vibrant cultural programme to the city throughout the month under the shared theme of love. At the same time, during a period that is generally quieter in terms of tourism, it attracts international visitors with its appealing offer.

The Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards have been presented since 2014 by the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN), in cooperation with the European Travel Commission (ETC), Europa Nostra, and the Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism (NECSTouR). The awards encourage European destinations to develop sustainable cultural tourism practices, increase the visibility of cultural tourism destinations, and provide a platform for sharing experiences and knowledge. This year, 54 projects competed in four categories, and the awards were presented as part of the 18th International Conference for Cultural Tourism in Europe, held from 2 to 4 October 2025 in Sibiu, Romania.

The award is an important international recognition for Ljubljana as a destination that successfully combines rich cultural heritage with a sustainable approach to tourism and active involvement of the local community.

For all generations and tastes

The LUV Fest programme is designed to reach a variety of target groups. It is intended for families with children who can enjoy creative workshops, storytelling events, and launching miniature boats (gregorčki) on the Ljubljanica River, as well as for individuals and couples looking for intimate cultural experiences, romantic moments or culinary delights. The festival pays special attention to the LGBT community, single visitors, and lovers of culture, cuisine and art, as well as those interested in contemporary artistic practices.

The LUV Fest programme is co-created by more than 90 different partners, including cultural institutions, NGOs, shopkeepers, restaurateurs, artisans, contemporary creators and artists. In the open-air art gallery stretching across the streets and squares, both emerging and established artists participate with light installations, and Ljubljana’s primary school pupils also contribute with their creative projects. It is this broad inclusion that gives the festival a strong sense of authenticity.

Added value for the city and the economy

With its wide range of partners and content, LUV Fest strengthens the sense of community and creates a meeting space for residents and visitors alike. At the same time, it boosts Ljubljana’s international profile as a city of culture and art and a capital for urban getaways. By increasing the number of visits, extending the average length of stay, and encouraging spending outside the peak tourist season, the festival also supports the local economy.
