Renovation of slovenska cesta

As part of the spread of designated areas for pedestrians in the Slovenian capital, we are renovating the Slovenska Cesta road that runs through the city centre.

The renovation of the main part of the Slovenska Cesta will change a corridor that was until recently used for transit into one of the main public spaces of the capital. Termination of individual motorised transport allowed for the expansion of programmes and creation of space with its own character, while preserving bus transport and delivery and thus partially retaining the historic character of traffic route which feeds the city centre.

A key feature of the arrangements and distinctive element of the Slovenska Cesta will be an avenue which will run along its eastern edge. The selected trees linking the area into a unified space marked by a strong green character are of genus Fraxinus ornus (flowering ash).

The main part of the Slovenska Cesta (from Šubičeva Ulica street to Gosposvetska Cesta road) will be arranged in a pedestrian zone with a public transport lane. Extension of the sidewalk establishing a joint use for pedestrians and cyclists along both sides and uniform-level of the sidewalk and road surface will visually link the space while facilitating cross-connections for pedestrians. A new paving executed in concrete is envisaged, with different structural treatment – the middle traffic lane made of monolithic concrete slab, and surfaces for pedestrians and cyclists of concrete flagstones.

Before the execution of new floorings on the Slovenska Cesta, we will also restore the municipal utility infrastructure. New waterworks and sewer system, street lightning as well as pipeline will be built on the entire section.
