The Waterpipe Bridge connects Rakova jelša and the Ljubljana Marshes
We opened the Waterpipe Bridge, which connects the Ljubljana Marshes Landscape Park with the park facilities at Rakova jelša. The bridge, intended for pedestrians and cyclists, is the only bridge over the Ljubljanica River between Ižanska cesta and the bridge in Podpeč.
The new bridge was constructed on the existing structure of the Ljubljana-Brest water pipeline in Lipe at Črna vas, which was built in the late 1980s to supply drinking water across the Ljubljanica River. Due to its poor condition and deterioration, the old structure required renovation and replacement of water pipelines. We designed the renovation so that the bridge now simultaneously carries infrastructure pipes and allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross.
To ensure flood safety, we raised it by 120 cm, constructed access routes from Črnovaška cesta to Cesta v Gorice, ramps and connections to it. The new steel rod structure of the bridge has a square cross-section, and a corridor is inserted into it, the shape of which resembles a boat – a logboat, which has been a typical means of transportation on the marshes since prehistoric times. The bridge is made of larch wooden slats, which are attached to a steel substructure. As part of the work, we also constructed a high-voltage electrical network, which is now laid in the ground and suspended from the bridge structure.
The value of the investment is approximately 3.1 million euros, of which around 2.1 million was allocated by the Voka Snaga company and 1 million by the City of Ljubljana.
The bridge was designed by the architectural studio Medprostor, and the works were carried out by CGP, družba za gradbeništvo, inženiring, proizvodnjo in vzdrževanje cest, d.d.
