Together For a More Beautiful Ljubljana
In Ljubljana, we are once again preparing the traditional spring environmental campaign For a More Beautiful Ljubljana, which takes place between 22 March, World Water Day, and 22 April, World Earth Day.
In addition to the annual cleaning campaigns, we will, among other things, present a campaign to monitor and remove illegal advertising surfaces, announce the avenue and tree of the year, and the Best Apartment Building of the Year in Ljubljana. As part of the campaign, the Outside project is already underway, with which we are collecting initiatives for local activities in residential neighbourhoods.
Cleaning campaigns

District communities, tourist associations, schools and kindergartens, and other individuals and groups who care about our environment are preparing numerous environmental cleanup campaigns this year as well.
The annual central cleaning campaign carried out by employees of the City Administration of the City of Ljubljana and public companies and institutes will take place this year on Saturday, April 5, when we will clean the areas of the Tivoli Park, Ljubljana ZOO, Koseze Pond, Golovec Hill and Zajčja dobrava.
The public company Voka Snaga is joining the clean-up efforts, providing bags and gloves to the organizers of the clean-up efforts and taking care of the removal of the collected waste.

We will round off the clean-up efforts with the traditional cleaning of the Ljubljanica River, which will take place on Saturday, 19 April 2025. Divers led by the Vivera Underwater Activities Association, fishermen, firefighters, boatmen, rescuers and others will participate.
At the initiative of Ecologists Without Borders, we will also join the digital clean-up campaign. We will clean up unnecessary files, programs, images, applications, and other useless data that take up space on our computers and phones, slow down our devices, and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
Tree and avenue of 2024
As part of the For a More Beautiful Ljubljana campaign, we will choose a tree and an avenue of the year this year. The expert committee has shortlisted seven candidates for the tree of the year and five for the avenue of the year. The finalists will be presented at the start of the For a More Beautiful Ljubljana campaign, after which online voting will begin, with which citizens will choose the winner in both categories. They will be announced on 22 April, World Earth Day, and then they will symbolically represent all the trees in the city for the entire year.
The primary purpose of selecting the Tree and Avenue of the Year is to raise awareness of the immense importance of trees for our city.

The Best Apartment Building in Ljubljana 2024
As part of the For a More Beautiful Ljubljana campaign, we will also announce the Best Apartment Building in Ljubljana for 2024. This year, we left the selection of candidates to the citizens, who proposed 17 apartment buildings. An expert committee will select the finalists from among them, and the citizens will then choose the winning apartment building through online voting. The main purpose of the campaign is to encourage residents of multi-apartment buildings to do their best to help ensure that their building reflects clean, orderly and sustainably oriented coexistence.
Monitoring and removal of illegal advertising surfaces
The City of Ljubljana Inspectorate is continuing its campaign to remove illegal advertising surfaces this year. In January and February, a total of 17 advertising surfaces were removed, and in the first half of March, another 14 advertising surfaces were removed along the Tržaška cesta road. The progress of the removal will be presented in more detail during the campaign For a More Beautiful Ljubljana.

As part of the For a More Beautiful Ljubljana campaign, we will also present the Ljubljana – My City program, with which we have been co-financing for over 30 years the renovation of building shells, facades and roofs that are important from a cultural heritage perspective or are located in a cultural heritage area. The first building renovated within the framework of this program was Plečnik's Peglezen building, and to date, we have renovated around 650 buildings of monumental importance in Ljubljana.
Outside project
Within the framework of the For a More Beautiful Ljubljana campaign, this year we are also implementing the Outside project, which allows residents of Ljubljana's neighbourhoods to implement their ideas for outdoor spaces. With advice, mentoring and financial support, we help them implement small local ideas and promote connections between them. So far, we have implemented 37 ideas together with residents, and this year we will select the next 20. We are collecting initiatives until 6 April 2025.
