As part of the traditional spring campaign For a More Beautiful Ljubljana, we will also choose a tree and avenue of 2024 in Ljubljana.

Seven finalists are competing for the title of Tree of the Year and five for the title of Avenue of the Year. Voting will be open until 13 April 2025, and the Tree and Avenue of the Year will be announced on 22 April, World Earth Day. Our care for urban trees has once again been recognized internationally, as we have been awarded the title of City of Trees for the sixth consecutive year.

For the sixth year in a row, Ljubljana is selecting a tree of the year, and for the second year, a tree-lined avenue of the year. Based on suggestions from citizens, an expert committee has selected seven finalists for the Tree of the Year and five for the Avenue of the Year. The final selection includes trees and avenues that are exceptional in terms of their size, compactness, historical significance, age or appropriate choice of tree species for the space in which they grow, particular growth or the significance that the tree or avenue has in a certain area.
This year, we are leaving the final decision to the citizens, who can vote for their favourite tree and their favourite avenue until 13 April 2025.

The main aim of the Tree and Avenue of the Year campaign is to raise awareness of the immense importance of trees for our city. With the campaign, we want to encourage people to observe trees and raise the awareness of citizens about their importance for the quality of life in the city. The Tree and the Avenue of the Year 2024 will thus symbolically represent all other trees in the city until the next selection.
