On Sunday, 20 July 2025, we opened the renovated Vevče Swimming Pool Complex. With the Vevče Swimming Pool Complex, we revived a previously brownfield area along the Ljubljanica River and developed another recreational center in the city. At the same time as the swimming pool complex, we also renovated the nearby streets, Pot heroja Trtnika and Papirniška pot.

The new facility is designed sustainably and equipped with a solar power plant, heat pumps and a groundwater exploitation system. On site, you will find a 25-meter indoor swimming pool with a movable floor, a multi-purpose sports hall, saunas (Finnish, Turkish, and infrared), a 50-meter outdoor swimming pool, a children's pool and paddling pool, a restaurant with a terrace, a children's playground, a beach volleyball court and two table tennis tables.

The swimming pool complex is open from Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 22:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9:00 to 22:00. The price list is available here.

Outdoor area with an Olympic-sized pool, a smaller pool and a paddling pool

The outdoor platform will certainly be the main activity space at the Vevče Swimming Pool Complex. The central part features a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool, next to which are a smaller pool for non-swimmers and a paddling pool for children. The swimming pool has an exceptional location, as it opens onto the Ljubljanica River.

Added value – landscaped Ljubljanica River embankment with trees

Wooden terraces for visitors have been set up along the edge of the platform, and behind them, there is plenty of space to relax on the landscaped embankment of the Ljubljanica River with trees that will provide pleasant shade throughout the day. Here, everyone who wants to relax and rest while swimming will find their place.

Indoor pool

The 25-meter indoor pool will be available for recreational swimmers all year round, regardless of weather conditions. It is primarily intended for recreational swimming but also allows for water polo and swimming training. Among the advantages of the pool, we should mention the movable floor, which makes it possible to adjust the water depth for those who are still learning to swim. Comfortable loungers are arranged on the wooden platform at the edge of the pool.

Relaxation areas and a gym for various recreational activities

Behind the green terrace overlooking the outdoor pool, the first floor of the swimming pool complex features relaxation areas cantered around Finnish, Turkish, and infrared saunas. These are complemented by a cold pool on the terrace and quiet relaxation areas. If you've had enough relaxation, you can visit the gym on the other side of the building, which is designed for various recreational activities.

Beach volleyball, table tennis and children's playground equipment

There is a beach volleyball court in the outdoor area, as well as two table tennis tables, so there will be no shortage of fun. Children will certainly enjoy the children's playground with wooden playground equipment, which will offer them endless opportunities to take a break between swimming adventures.

How to get to the Vevče Swimming Pool Complex?

There are different ways to get to the Vevče Swimming Pool Complex. There are 88 stands for bicycles in front of the entrance, and a few minutes away is a BicikeLJ self-service bike rental stop. You can get there by city bus line 27, which has been extended to Vevče. There is a parking lot for cars in the immediate vicinity, and parking spaces are also available along the streets Papirniška pot and Pot heroja Trtnika.

Architects Mojca Gužič Trplan and Gregor Trplan were guided by the choice of natural materials when designing the new swimming pool complex, which is why the entire complex is made of wood, giving visitors a feeling of warmth and cosiness. Wood accompanies us already at the entrance, at the reception, and in the changing rooms, through which we reach the indoor pool, also clad in warm wood. From here, a view opens up to the outdoor pool on one side, while on the other, sun loungers are arranged on a raised platform.

Project value

For the construction of the Vevče Swimming Pool Complex, we signed a contract with the contractor VG5 d.o.o. for 15.7 million EUR, excluding VAT, and we received funds for co-financing through the Integrated Territorial Investments mechanism in the amount of 5,899,056.66 EUR. Half of this is European Union support, and half is a national contribution provided from the state budget. We have already received these funds, and we have additionally secured 5,439,341.34 EUR (half are EU funds, half are funds of the Republic of Slovenia). We also received funds from the Eco Fund in the amount of 527,721.63 EUR.

In total, we have thus obtained 11.8 million EUR, which means that we had to provide funds from the budget of the City of Ljubljana for only 25% of the project value.
