The international organization EurEau launched the first European tap water tasting, which also included water from the drinking fountain on Congress Square. In Ljubljana, we drink water that does not require any pre-treatment – which is a real rarity in Europe.

Innovative Waste Solutions – Exploring room for improvement
In May, Slovenia welcomed waste management experts from six European countries. As part of the CLEAR CITIES project, the study visit offered European partners valuable insights into waste management practices in the Ljubljana Urban Region and showcased advanced solutions – from AI-powered robots and paper made from invasive knotweed to insulation materials crafted from textile waste and initiatives fostering a culture of sharing and repair. The diversity of European practices highlighted the potential for adapting general waste disposal tariffs and for systemically integrating innovative approaches into waste management strategies.

70th anniversary of the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts
The 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts – Oracle: On Fantasy and Freedom opened on Friday, 6. June, and will run until 12. October 2025 at several venues in the city, marking its 70th anniversary. The International Centre for Graphic Arts, in collaboration with renowned curator Chus Martínez, has prepared a program at Tivoli Castle, Švicarija, Plečnik Auditorium, Jakopič Promenade, Modern Gallery and City Gallery Ljubljana.

Ljubljana Achieves Outstanding Results in the ICCA Statistics Report: Country & City Rankings 2024
Ljubljana has achieved an exceptional 39th place on the global ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which is based on the number of international association congresses held in a city in a given year. This marks an impressive climb of 11 places compared to the previous year. On the European list, Ljubljana secured 23rd place, ahead of cities such as Munich, Zurich, Bologna, Florence, Zagreb, and Belgrade.

Mission 100: LPP and Energetika Ljubljana together for cleaner air
As part of the Mission 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, the public passenger transport company LPP and the public energy company Energetika Ljubljana successfully introduced the first city bus powered by 100% biomethane, thus starting a new phase of the transition to carbon-neutral public mobility in Ljubljana.

Ljubljana has been announced as the host city for Urban Future 2026, one of Europe’s leading conferences focused on sustainable urban development. The announcement was made during the Urban Future 2025 conference in Łódź, Poland, where the Urban Future Baton was passed to Ljubljana.
