Processing of wood residues

Is sawdust suitable as an input material?

Wood biomass treatment and processing generates a specific kind of waste, which is usually used as an energy source. Within the framework of the project we will examine whether sawdust, which is usually partially contaminated with petroleum products, is a suitable input material for the growth media of various microbes or production of enzymes.

By making of 15 different moulds, we will try to process wood residues into various 3D composites (e. g. plates, cutlery ...).

The residues will be also liquefied and the so-called liquefied wood will be tested as an additive to wood adhesives and coatings, as the basis for bio-polyurethane foam from liquefied wood, as glue for plywood, or as a part of bio-wood composites.
