10 Years of the Bee Path in Ljubljana
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bee Path in Ljubljana. In 2016, Ljubljana was named the European Green Capital. As part of the preparations for this recognition, the Bee Path in Ljubljana was established on 7. October 2015, and this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The milestone will be marked with a Honey Day on 4 October and an exhibition 10 Years of the Bee Path at the City Hall, open until 12 October.
The Bee Path was initially conceived as a physical route connecting various bee-related locations and themes – from cultural and natural heritage to local products and beyond. Today, it has grown into a movement of like-minded individuals and organizations who, through diverse activities, care for the well-being of bees and other pollinators in the city. In addition to beekeepers and Ljubljana’s beekeeping associations, the initiative includes institutions, schools, museums, companies, and tourism providers. As of 2025, it brings together 52 members.
Thanks to its many activities supporting bees and other pollinators, the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association has named the City of Ljubljana the most bee-friendly municipality in Slovenia three times (2017, 2019, and 2022).
Honey Day – every first Saturday in October
Honey Day has been organised every first Saturday in October since 2015. Beekeepers and members of the Bee Path offer honey, mead and other bee products to visitors, while children can take part in creative workshops.
