An exhibition celebrating "100 Years of Puppetry in Slovenia" was opened at the National Museum in Ljubljana on 21 March 2014, the World Puppetry Day.

It features more than 200 puppets of the most renowned Slovenian fine artists.

The exhibition is organised by Slovenian puppet theatres, National Theatre Museum, National Museum of Contemporary History and the National Museum of Slovenia under the supervision of Mini Theatre Ljubljana and Unime Slovenia. Agata Freyer and Edi Majaron are the authors of the exhibitions. The Ljubljana Puppet Theatre has contributed most of the puppets in the exhibition in is largely acknowledged.

The Slovenian fine artists were honoured by the invitation of the directors to participate in puppet shows and bring in their own personal "handwriting". Most of the time they were left to realise their sketches with the suggestions of the technologists, who were advising the artists attempting at the puppet show organisation for the first time. Their knowledge and creativity brought the sketches to life, and the puppets to the stage.

At the mention of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre we must comment on Ciril Jagodic, who technologically invented the unique marionette control bar – the horizontal “Ljubljana-type balance”.

The wonderful selection of over 200 puppets by the most renowned Slovenian artists and their work for the Slovenian puppet theatres from the beginnings of the 20th century to this day will be open for viewing until 8 June 2014.
