200 years of the ljubljana botanical garden
Every Saturday this summer it is possible to reach Ljubljana Botanical Garden by boat, and then enjoy a guided walk.
Ljubljana Botanical Garden celebrates its 200th birthday this year and thus holds the record for the longest unbroken operation of any cultural, scientific and educational foundation in the country. It was first founded in 1810, in the time of the Illyrian Provinces as a garden of native flora as part of a high school (École Centrale) and is today a friendly place to enjoy a nice walk or to relax in the shade of mature trees.
Between 19 June and 25 September 2010 it is also possible to get to the Botanical Garden by boat, and find out something interesting about the river and city during the journey. On a guided walk around the garden you can also get to know its history through the ages and its capabilities as there are more than 4,500 species, subspecies and types of plant grown there, both native and from various parts of Europe and around the world.
