"A to B: Ljubljana"

A free-of-charge mobile application for sustainable transport "A to B: Ljubljana" has received the Brumen Biennial of Slovene Visual Communications Award 2013.

A free-of-charge mobile application for sustainable transport "A to B: Ljubljana" (BicikeLJ, public transport, walking) has received the Brumen Biennial of Slovene Visual Communications 2013 main award in the category of Online and Mobile Applications.

The free-of-charge mobile application provides planning a trip from A to B in the City of Ljubljana and is available for smartphones which support Android (GooglePlay) and iOS (iTunes) systems.

The "A to B: Ljubljana" application allows the user the choice of BicikeLJ, public transport or walking for quick and comfortable travelling. The application was designed by Sebastian Žetko, developed by Luka Penger and Matej Bukovinski from the Guerrilla Code studio, and produced by the initiator and developer of sustainable mobility in Ljubljana’s urban region, the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RDA LUR) and the PEKINPAH Association.

The mobile application was conceptualized in april 2013 during the "Designing an Agenda, or, How to Avoid Solving Problems That Aren’t« service and information design creative camp organised by the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RRA LUR) and the PEKINPAH Association. The application idea was designed by Sabina Bakula, Urška Kadunc, Urša Kisovec, Anja Kozlan and Sebastian Žetko under the supervision of Petra Černe Oven and Barbara Predan.

The city's centre and other densely populated parts of the city were once again returned to pedestrians and cyclists after the changes in the traffic arrangements by the City of Ljubljana. Walking, cycling and using public transport have becoming ever so more attractive to the citizens and visitors. Due to the traffic arrangement changes, public transport route alterations and the implementation of the BicikeLJ public bicycle network in Ljubljana and surrounding areas, we need to develop services to assist the users of sustainable transportation by planning and executing transport around the city and the general Ljubljana urban region.

Free-of-charge mobile service "A to B: Ljubljana" (A do B: Ljubljana) is an example of a service that enables the users of public transport options to reach their destination on foot, by bicycle or by bus with the help of their smartphone. The application is another step towards building green, specialised for Ljubljana, mobile transport network. Citizens of Ljubljana and daily migrants are encouraged to use public transport and help to create conditions for green mobility in the wider region.

The "A to B: Ljubljana" application is one of the first service to include the bicycle as sustainable, publicly available transport vehicle into the European city's mobile application, which only contributes to the comprehensive offer for the user and the city itself.

It is designed to allow upgrading and inclusion of existing and innovative forms of transport, such as carpooling. The application creators and development initiators will strive for its further development to enable the citizen and visitors to Ljubljana and its wider region modern planning of quick and comfortable use of sustainable transport for the higher quality of life in the region.
