Age-friendly ljubljana
The City of Ljubljana has prepared an action plan entitled 'Age-friendly Ljubljana' for the period 2013 to 2015, which lists nearly 100 measures that focus on eight key areas of life.
The 'Age-friendly Ljubljana' action plan for the 2013 to 2015 period was adopted by Ljubljana City Council at a meeting on Monday 18 March 2013.
As the action plan has been prepared in Slovene only, for further information, all those interested can turn directly to the City of Ljubljana's Department of Health and Social Care.
In Ljubljana, there has long been a systematic and in-depth effort to strengthen public health, which includes many factors from the social inclusion of all groups of the population to access to public health, schooling, culture, sport and housing conditions as well as a healthy environment. For nearly a quarter of a century, the City of Ljubljana has been a member of the World Health Organisation's European Healthy Cities Network. As part of this programme, we are also participants in the special sub network on 'Healthy Ageing', which is particularly focussed on themes related to the health and wellbeing of the elderly.
A few years ago we were the first city or local authority in Slovenia to join the 'Age-friendly Cities' programme. In early 2011, the City of Ljubljana became a member of the WHO global Age-friendly Cities network and a signatory of the Dublin Declaration. In this movement the emphasis is very much on efforts to create urban environments that encourage healthy and active ageing.
