Analysis of Trafficking in Human Beings

On 29 January 2015, The Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security presented the results of the research Analysis of Trafficking in Human Beings with the purpose of labour exploitation, child trafficking, forced begging and forced criminal activities.

The analysis was carried out by researchers at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security Aleš Bučar Ručman, PhD and Assistant Prof Danijela Frangež, PhD who focused on the four forms of trafficking in Slovenia: trafficking with the purpose of labour exploitation, child trafficking, trafficking with the purpose of forcing people into begging and other forms of forced collection of money and trafficking with the purpose of forcing people into forced criminal activities.

Among other things the research has shown that exploitation of migrant workers in Slovenia has all the characteristics of human trafficking, with employers abusing the social vulnerability of migrant workers.
One of the more exposed forms of child trafficking is also forced marriage which is in Slovenia still all too often referred to as a custom in certain cultures. It is necessary to be aware that this violates the rights of children.

Human trafficking is also present in Slovenia! At the City of Ljubljana we are aware of this and for this purpose we co-finance programs in this field. One of the major non-governmental organisations dealing with human trafficking is Society Ključ - Centre for Fight against Trafficking in Human Beings which was founded in 2001 carrying out various programmes that are also supported by the City of Ljubljana.
