Film under the Stars

Again this year film stars are shining at the Ljubljana Castle. From 5 to 28 June, the Film under the Stars is offering numerous film treats.

This year’s Film under the Stars, organised by public institutes Kinodvor and Ljubljana Castle, is opening with the film Men Don’t Cry (Muškarci ne plaču) by Bosnian director Alen Drlević. The recipient of the Europa Cinemas Award for Best European Film at the festival in Karlovy Vary is impressing with its cast of top actors from all around the former country and the emotional charge with which it is addressing the topic of the last Balkan war. Further enriching the opening night with Peugeot is the short film The Box (Celica) by Slovenian creator Dušan Kastelic, recipient of the Vesna Award for Best Animated Film at the Slovenian Film Festival.

Film nights conclude on Saturday, 28 June, with the traditional Vikend Avant Premiere of the film Whitney directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald (Marley). Moving, honest and officially approved documentary portrait of the pop music icon Whitney Houston had its world premiere at the festival in Cannes.

Like every year the Film under the Stars programme includes a diverse and high-quality selection of most resounding films of the past cinematographic season, among them prestigious film festival award-winners, Oscar recipients and nominees as well as most popular films in Kinodvor. This year the Castle courtyard is going to be the venue for the first showing of five much anticipated films on Slovenian screens.

Screenings are scheduled every day at 21:30. Films are screened in their original language with Slovenian subtitles; films in a language other than English also have English subtitles. The price of a ticket is 4.5 EUR, for avant premieres and special screenings 5.5 EUR. Tickets are already available.

In the event of rain or bad weather forecast screenings are cancelled.
