Award-winning city of ljubljana scholars
City of Ljubljana scholars Dan Adlešič and Miha Kosmač are the recipients of the EsslArt Award 2013 and a ‘Golden Bra’ award at the 15th Magdalena International Festival of Creative Communication.
Yesterday, at a nominees’ evening for the EsslArt Award 2013, run by the Essl museum and retail chain BauMax, a nominees’ exhibition opened and the Slovene winner was announced at the Metelkova Museum of Contemporary Arts (MSUM). From among ten nominees, an international expert jury led by Rene Block selected Gregor Maver and Dan Adlešič, a City of Ljubljana scholar, for the EsslArt Award 2013. Adlešič impressed the jury with an installation entitled Instruman and also received a special invitation from VIG (Wiener Städtischen Versicherungsverein) to an exhibition in Vienna.
The EsslArt Award is intended to discover and support art students from central and south-eastern Europe, with participation in this year’s selection from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia as well as for the first time from Turkey.
At the conclusion of the 15th Magdalena International Festival of Creative Communication, which ran in Maribor on 10 and 11 May 2013, Golden Bra awards were bestowed upon the best entrants. This year’s award winners included Miha Kosmač, who picked up a Golden Bra in the Outdoor Advertising category for his work ‘For our Children's Children’ and in the Small Promos category for his work Ne joči, Peter (‘Don’t cry, Peter’).
In the 2012/13 academic year, the City of Ljubljana has awarded bursaries to 206 pupils and students who are in education in Slovenia and abroad and has granted a total of €569,829 in bursaries in 2013.
