Ljubljana Zoo welcomed the birth of its first litter of three baby meerkats on 15 July 2012.

Meerkats have been living at Ljubljana Zoo since autumn last year. The babies and their parents are spending a few days in their internal area, but soon – when the pups are at least 14 days old – they will be shown to visitors.

Did you know that meerkats eat poisonous snakes and scorpions? Their venom is harmless to the meerkats, as they are immune to it.
And one more thing: The most famous meerkat is Timon from the cartoon the Lion King. In creating Timon, the animators used meerkats living at San Diego Zoo as models.
