Best public restrooms 2013

The City of Ljubljana won the Best Public Restroom 2013 award in the category of municipalities organized by the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Society.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Society has organized the competition evaluating the public restroom cleanliness for the fifth time. The members of the panel evaluated public restrooms at over 120 locations throughout Slovenia. Apart from 35 municipalities and 50 highway gas stations this year’s competition also included 13 hospitals and 10 Community Health Centres.

The members of the panel rated nine public restrooms in Ljubljana, i.e. in the Plava Laguna pedestrian underpass, under the Tromostovje, Mesarski Bridge, Zmajski Bridge and Prulski Bridge, in the Pogačarjev Trg (in the Kresije building), under the Kongresni Trg (Bukvarna and Zvezda entrances) and in the Plečnik pedestrian underpass.

All of the abovementioned public restrooms are free of charge and have their access points marked on the buildings, at the info point, on the city map and on the orientation signs. Apart from these public restrooms, Ljubljana also offers two additional portable toilets (in the Tivoli Park next to the playground and near the Polje cemetery).

According to the evaluation criteria, the Ljubljana public restrooms beat the competition receiving the total grade of 4.81.

It should also be noted that the Community Health Centre Ljubljana won the third prize in its respective competition.

The main goal of the “Best Restroom 2013” competition was to raise awareness on the needs of persons with inflammatory bowel disease who are more frequent users of public restrooms. The Association also wants to encourage municipalities and other public institutions to provide clean and tidy public restrooms.
