Bobri festival 2014

From 25 January until 8 February 2014 Ljubljana is hosting the 6th Festival of Culture and Art Education Bobri, which once again offers an extensive free programme of events.

This year’s Festival of Culture and Art Education includes all artistic fields from the previous years: theatre, music, film, fine arts and literature. The focus of the festival remains the same − active inclusion of young visitors into artistic creation and enriching their cultural experiences, to which end the festival contributes by offering a number of cultural and artistic workshops for the youngest ones, together with additional material, recommended contents as well as other activities and information. The festival is being organized by the City Municipality of Ljubljana and its executive producer is the Slovene Youth Theatre.

This year's Bobri Festival focuses on two themes:

  • Film – the Kinodvor cinema is celebrating A Year of Cinema and Cinemas to commemorate the 90th anniversary of its operation at Kolodvorska 13 in Ljubljana, whereas the Slovenian Cinematheque celebrates its 50th anniversary, and
  • Roman Ljubljana – Emona, celebrating its two millennia of existence in 2014. This is why this year's film-themed posters feature a beaver, peeking from the poster boards dressed in a Roman toga and wearing an olive branch wreath on its head.

This year’s Bobri Festival is being organized together with as many as 53 cultural institutes and groups from Ljubljana and the events take place at 34 stages across the capital, where children have the opportunity to attend 175 events (70 theatrical and musical performances, 18 films and as many as 69 workshops). Altogether, 16,458 free tickets were distributed for the festival.

In line with tradition, the festival will end with a concert at the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture. This year, the visitors will be entertained by Neca Falk with her music project Maček Muri in Muca Maca, which belongs among the most brilliant pieces of music production for children and adults. In addition, the event will be accompanied by a screening of the animated film Maček Muri.

Besides cultural activities and exploring the yet unknown in different cultural fields through workshops, talks, interaction with the audience and additional material, the Festival of Culture and Art Education Bobri above all encourages the young children to be creative and to develop their own imagination. In this way, the festival remains faithful to its original purpose year after year, i.e. culture and art education as well as connecting the numerous public institutes and organizations in Ljubljana, which are active in promoting cultural activities for the young ones.
