Book and Documentary on Jože Plečnik
At Plečnik House on Tuesday, 26 January 2016, the newly published Plečnik House book was presented and the documentary on the renovation of the architect's home in Trnovo was pre-premiered.
The publication presents expert views of conservators, restorers, architects involved in the renovation, landscape architects who renovated the garden and includes photographs of the scenery during the house renovation. The book also gives new insight into the life of the great master, testimonials of people who were with Jože Plečnik during his last moments and several previously unpublished architect’s photographs.
The presentation of the book edited by Mojca Ferle from the Ljubljana Museum and Galleries was followed by the showing of the documentary on the renovation of the Plečnik House (2013–2015) titled Windows should be White, White, Clean filmed by photographer and filmmaker Tone Stojko and produced by Ljubljana Museum and Galleries.
The film is part of the permanent exhibition Plečnik and premieres on 8 February, the Prešeren Day, a Slovenian cultural holiday.
Plečnik House book
The book is not a monograph, it is a collection of expert papers of different professionals and Plečnik’s peers arising from a unique opportunity, namely, the comprehensive renovation of the Plečnik House. In it the architect lived and worked during the period of his biggest projects and the renovation itself gave Ljubljana Museum and Galleries better insight into his thinking and creative process. As the Director of Ljubljana Museum and Galleries said in his introductory words: »It is our wish the Plečnik House evolves into a memory and a reminder that architecture is the creation of images, buildings and the environment in which man recognises that the quality of his life is an important framework for his relationship towards the world.«
Documentary Windows should be White, White, Clean
The documentary Windows should be White, White, Clean was produced by Ljubljana Museum and Galleries and filmed by photographer and filmmaker Tone Stojko. »The initial idea was to film a short presentation of the Plečnik House renovation. But when I witnessed the enthusiasm and the professionalism of the team working on the project I said to myself I must film a short documentary which would also preserve the words of everyone who made an important contribution to the revival and conservation of this beautiful cultural monument. And so, a 70-minute-long documentary record as been created which not only tells the story of the remodelling of the Plečnik House but we also find out a lot about Plečnik,« says the author of the film. Milko Lazar was responsible for the film score, Simon Stojko Falk was the cameraman and areal shots were taken by Luka Carl and David Jelovčan.
The film premieres on the Prešeren Day, 8 February, at the Plečnik House and the City Museum of Ljubljana from 10.00 till 18.00.
