The new Aliens Act has introduced a card format of the permanent residence permit.

Under the Aliens Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia no. 50/2011 and 57/2011 – amend.), permanent residence issued under the previous law in force remains valid and can be used until 18 May 2013, by which time the bearer must replace it with a separate document in card format.

With this in mind, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is urging all resident foreigners whose permanent residence is a sticker in their passport and who have not taken steps to replace this with the new card format to do so immediately and by 18 May 2013 at the latest.

In this way, any inconvenience in proving your status and exercising the rights arising from your status including unrestricted travel outside Slovenia will be avoided and the possibility of your documents being forged will be reduced. Your permit for permanent residence can be obtained at your local Government Administrative Unit (‘upravna enota’).
