City of Ljubljana at Femcities Conference

On 1 and 2 June 2015, Zagreb in the framework of a meeting of representatives of cities included in the FemCities network, hosted a conference about the impact of economic crisis on the equality of genders and women rights.

April this year the City of Ljubljana was included in the FemCities network which is coordinated by the city of Vienna. It is a network that was created in 1997 connecting European cities with the purpose of dealing with the topics of gender equality, human rights and other issues related to the equality of women in public life. The network's main goal is exchange of good practices between professional services of cities and municipality administrations.

The representative of the City of Ljubljana, who is also the coordinator for equal opportunities, participated at the Zagreb conference about the impact of economic crisis on the gender equality and women rights. At the conference they discussed the current state of (non-)employability of women due to the impact of economic crisis and searched for solutions that would enable greater employability. Thus, good practices from some cities were also presented.

Ljubljana has good practices to offer also in the field of gender equality. We have many programmes and activities as well as public and support services that contribute to gender equality. Our good practices have been presented in the context of different events – e.g. the discussion Gender Equality – Thinking Globally, Acting Locally which was held last week at Brdo pri Kranju. They were also presented in the context of a workshop at the Zagreb conference.

The City of Ljubljana will make a step forward with the action plan for gender equality, which is under preparation.
