City wardens reducing co²

As part of the 'Slovenia Reducing CO²: good practices' project, Umanotera, the Slovenian Foundation for Sustainable Development, has ranked the use of work bikes by Ljubljana City Wardens among the first four cases of good practice in 2013.

In July 2009, City of Ljubljana City Wardens whose priorities are the heart of the city centre and pedestrian zones started using bikes for their work. Their work bike fleet currently counts 30 bikes. Doing their jobs on bikes helps to reduce vehicle traffic and exhaust emissions in town.

Buying and maintaining bikes is fundamentally cheaper than buying cars. Doing their jobs on bikes gives the City Wardens greater mobility, accessibility and communications with residents and enhances their response time to traffic – safety problems. It also helps to improve staff health.

On 23 April 2013, a film entitled 'Ljubljana City Wardens work bikes' was shown during talks on measures by local authorities as bearers of sustainable change in the field of sustainable mobility as part of the 'Slovenia Reducing CO²: good practices' project.

Alongside wardens on bikes, Umanotera rated among the first for cases of good practice of 2013 the eco-social farm Korenika, a wooden passive kindergarten in Preddvor and a commercial warehouse unit by the Eko produkt company.
